A sit-in for better Emergency Services in Nice

Latest News

Since 2005, attendance at the Emergency Department has been steadily increasing. Since the last reassessment of nursing and caregiver staff in 2009, the annual number of admissions to the department has increased by more than 10%!

soignants-au-coeur.jpg The working conditions for healthcare staff have continuously deteriorated, no longer allowing them to properly meet the needs of patients in their care, nor to guarantee the quality and safety of care.

With the opening of Pasteur II, scheduled for December, this precarious situation will not improve since two “satellite” emergency units will be closed. The Emergency Reception will then have to treat 13,000 additional patients each year.
Faced with this situation, the emergency staff created the “Soignants Au coeur des Urgences โ€“ Nice” Association to alert the General Management of the CHU of Nice and public opinion, but to date, no suitable proposal has been made. Although a slight increase in staffing was granted by the management after tough negotiations with the department heads, it will only partially cover this increase in activity and will not address the current understaffing at all. On the contrary, it will worsen it!

On May 30th, the Association sent a letter to the Mayor of Nice, Mr. Christian Estrosi, to alert him to the seriousness of the situation and to request a meeting.

This Thursday, June 19th, the staff will hold a sit-in in front of St. Roch Hospital from 11 am to 3:30 pm. It will be possible to have your blood pressure measured for free.

On Friday, June 20th, a 24-hour renewable strike notice will be filed to demand a sufficient staffing adjustment as soon as possible.

To this end, a petition has been created and is available online at: https://www.petitions24.net/patients_des_urgences_en_danger_stop

More than 2,500 signatures have already been collected, by reaching out to the people of Nice.
The Association also informs the public via its Facebook page and Twitter.
