After six years of work, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, inaugurated this Friday the underground passage of tram line 2 and the Magnan and Jean-Mรฉdecin stations.
Two underground stations are open to the public, “Alsace-Lorraine” and “Jean-Mรฉdecin,” which provides a connection with line 1.
“A huge thank you to all those who helped achieve this immense challenge” were his first words, accompanied by a beaming smile.
During the inauguration, Christian Estrosi emphasized that line 2 would “allow the liberation of 12 km of bus lanes which will be transformed into green corridors and reduce emissions by 126,000 tonnes of carbon equivalent.”
Initially estimated at 750 million euros, the total cost now amounts to 945 million euros, according to the city council, which has merged the budget of line 2 with that of the small line 3.
