To mark the 50th anniversary of its Matisse Museum, Nice is paying a grand tribute to the figure and work of Henri Matisse, with 8 simultaneous exhibitions.
The 8 exhibitions already bring together 8 museums of the City, establishing collaboration and complementarity in the service of a (re)discovery of Matisse and the city, with a route that irrigates the entire territory.
In parallel, “Nice 2013. A Summer for Matisse” also offers events throughout the summer: concerts, guided tours, performances, and various gatherings will take place within a program designed for all audiences.
In this perspective, which heralds a new era, the unique cultural events accompanying the exhibitions are opportunities that bring together different audiences from Nice. Novices and enthusiasts of Matisse, fans of experimental, classical, or jazz music, the curious and persistent, locals and vacationers.
Throughout the duration of the event, unique happenings will accompany the 8 exhibitions. They will allow the public to immerse themselves in Matisse’s work in an original way, but also to grasp its posthumous resonance in the history of art and music.
The guided tours by the exhibition curators will offer a special closeness with the public. Conferences proposed by the Palais Lascaris and the Museum of Fine Arts will welcome important figures from the world of art and culture, including Daniel Soutif, art historian and curator of the exhibition “A Century of Jazz in France,” Robert Racine, a renowned Quebec artist several times awarded for his literary and artistic work, and Eric de Visscher, director of the Museum of Music Cité de la Villette.
The MAMAC will even extend the event in October by offering meetings with Roland Botrel, collector, Ariane Coulondre, heritage conservator and head of the collections department at the Centre Pompidou, and artist Louis Cane.
