The team led by Corine Bertolotto and Robert Ballotti at the Mediterranean Centre for Molecular Medicine (C3M) has just published significant results in the treatment of melanoma.
Skin melanoma is a cancer of the skin cells promoted by sun exposure. It is estimated that nearly 12,000 new cases appear each year. When detected early, melanoma is cured in 85% of cases at 5 years. However, the appearance of metastases dramatically lowers the 5-year survival rate.
This team from Nice has just highlighted the role of the enzyme NAMPT in the resistance of metastatic melanoma cells to current treatments. This crucial discovery will make it possible to consider new therapies for the most severe melanomas. This work has been published in a prestigious international journal.
