The Gambardella Cup round of 16 between Le Canet-en-Roussillon and Lyon ended on a bad note. After the 2-0 victory of the Rhรดne club, a 17-year-old supporter from Cannet was lynched by a group of Lyon supporters.

A turbulent end to the match. After goals from Mohamed El Arouch and Thiena Gueye, the young Lyon players triumphed over Cannet-en-Roussillon. The match went off without a hitch. Evidence of this comes from images shared on social media where Canet and Lyon supporters played a match together on a city pitch.

Unfortunately, after the referee blew the final whistle, a supporter from Canet was violently attacked by Rhรดne supporters. The 17-year-old was set upon by about ten Lyon supporters. The reason? He was wearing a hoodie of the rival club, Olympique de Marseille. “He was beaten up, he was attacked. Then they undressed him, removed his hoodie leaving him shirtless, and took some of his personal belongings,” explained Jordi Declo, general manager of Canet. Immediately after the incident, he was taken to the emergency room. According to initial estimates, the young man may have trauma to his neck, back, and cervical area. The southern club posted about the incident on social media and announced that several complaints would be filed. A report is planned, and the adolescentโ€™s mother intends to file a complaint. The Rhรดne club responded to the incident on social media, stating that it does not tolerate such behavior, and Jean-Michel Aulas reportedly spoke with the victim’s family.

As a reminder, this is not the first time Lyon supporters have shown violence against opponents. For example, in the Coupe de France match against Paris FC, incidents and fights occurred, resulting in the disqualification of both clubs. Since then, Lyon supporters have been banned from traveling. The French Football Federation will reopen the case.
