A third municipal police station opened in Nice since the beginning of Éric Ciotti’s term

This Friday, September 25, Nice mayor Éric Ciotti inaugurated a new municipal police station on Place Saint-Roch. It is the third one opened this year in Nice. Objective: to combat daily nuisances and get more police officers on the streets.

A new location to strengthen security. This Friday, September 25, 2026, Mayor Éric Ciotti cut the ribbon on the new municipal police station at Place Saint-Roch. Located in the Laure Ecard complex (former Peugeot garage that already houses a gymnasium, a cultural hall and the community center, editor’s note), this office welcomes 32 municipal police officers and A.S.V.P equipped with two cars and six scooters. The counter to welcome residents is located on the ground floor. It will remain open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., while work spaces occupy the first floor.

Police officers who previously worked on rue Denis Semeria are moving to these new premises to cover a vast area between Saint-Roch, the sectors of Bon Voyage, l’Ariane, Fenoglio de Briga, Pont-Michel, François-Mitterrand, Honoré-Bailet and Esplanade Vauban. Their priority missions: stop drug sales, monitor intoxicated individuals, limit nighttime noise nuisances, illegal markets, illegally parked cars and protect the markets of Saint-Roch and Bon Voyage. This is the third proximity station opened in 2026, after the one in Les Moulins on May 18 (at Place des Amaryllis, one week after the May 11 shooting, editor’s note) and the one at Cours Saleya on June 19 for the festival brigade.

Reinforced presence and sharply rising figures

To staff these offices, the municipality hopes to increase its municipal police force to 600 officers by the end of 2027 (more than 200 recruits, including 50 by the end of 2026). The goal is to increase police presence on public streets by 50%. To attract candidates, the city will participate in recruitment and advertising campaigns, particularly in the capital’s metro. Over the period from March 27 to September 23, 2026, police presence on public streets increased by half.

On the ground, this redeployment resulted in 3,777 arrests in total in the city. Among the most striking results, arrests jumped 187% in the Trachel neighborhood and 53% in Les Moulins, while interventions for drug trafficking and consumption recorded an increase of 21% with 780 arrests. In parallel, municipal forces issued 1,523 fines to combat daily incivilities.

Next step, the Police Headquarters 2027

Facing the overcrowded Nice detention center (occupied at over 200%, editor’s note), Éric Ciotti is asking the State to create an administrative detention center to expel foreigners in irregular situations. The mayor also wants a facility for juvenile offenders and a new detention center. The city will make available a buildable site of six hectares in the Var plain and awaits the response from the Ministry of Justice.

Regarding the Police Headquarters construction project, it will be completed in November 2026 for an opening in spring 2027. It will bring together the national police and municipal police on the same site. Thanks to the centralization of the city’s cameras, this tool will allow law enforcement to monitor events live and quickly guide patrols in the field.
