In 2009, François Dumont, an Education Assistant who manages the support for students with visual impairments, created the Television News Journal of our college for a blind student passionate about computing and technology whose dream was to become a journalist.
This idea of a television news journal came to him immediately and naturally. This journal has been in existence for over 3 years now. According to François, the journal has been viewed more than 7,000 times, which is a great success!
All willing students can participate, regardless of their level (from 6th grade to 3rd grade).
This year, it is the 6°1 class that is putting it together.
Mina, a journalist at the JTL, answers our questions:
How is the JTL produced?
We gather and search for news topics for the week. Then, we film, ask questions, and after that, we meet again to do the presentation takes. Finally, François compiles the journal on his computer.
What is the atmosphere like at the JTL?
The atmosphere is very joyful; if everything goes well, we might even make a blooper reel!
If you could, would you continue the JTL next year?
Yes, I would gladly do it because I really like the idea of being a journalist!
Do you get nervous in front of the camera?
No, not at all! I never get nervous and I feel quite comfortable.
In the end, the JTL is a beautiful story that has lasted for 3 years with students every year working with pleasure toward a single goal: to create the best possible television news journal to present at the college, and for as many people as possible to watch it and admire the work of this budding team of journalists!
