Starting from the academic year in September 2021, propelled by Jean-Christophe Boisse, the IUT of Nice will now offer a new degree, a Bachelor Universitaire Technologique.

Unique, new, and appealing, the B.U.T is a program offered at the bac+3 level that allows young graduates to glimpse the working world with professionals. This course drastically changes the teaching in IUTs by simply replacing knowledge with the notion of competence. Students will be assessed, not on their knowledge but on their ability to use it in specific contexts, notably within companies. The new B.U.T is dedicated to future general and technological high school graduates, with the high school diploma sufficing for admission to the institute. While currently D.U.T qualifications are held in the University Institutes of Technology, the goal is to offer a higher quality education to better guide students for their future working life, as explained by Jean-Christophe Boisse, director of the IUT Nice Cรดte d’Azur: โ€œThe aim is not to replace the D.U.T (bac+2) with a B.U.T (bac+3) but to extend it over three years, improve skills, but also allow students to go abroad or undertake sandwich courses with time spent in a company and at the instituteโ€.

This director is confident that these innovations will enable the 5 IUTs of Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโ€™Azur to fulfill their public service mission and further facilitate social mobility. During their course, students will choose their specialty and co-op placement starting from the first year, and add an international dimension in the second and final year. Guided by a team of competent professors and an annual program formed through teamwork between co-op placements and national education, the B.U.T aims to allow students in the region to be operational in the job market at the bac+3 level. While students will submit their choices on the โ€œParcoursupโ€ platform starting March 11, it is 21 B.U.T specialties that the IUTs of Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโ€™Azur will offer.

An appealing novelty for Nice students

With the Minister of Higher Education, Ms. Vidal, leading the way, a standout idea emerges in post-bac education with the aim of overhauling IUT diplomas, which are still D.U.T this year. With the establishment of this new Bachelor on the Fabron campus, the IUT of Nice boasts guaranteed effectiveness in attracting students: โ€œprofessional licenses have an 80% integration rate within six months followingโ€ indicates the director of the IUT of Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur. Additionally, this new program can rely on the 600 co-op placements in the region to better integrate its students. In the city of Nice, four specializations are available: computer science, electrical, business management, and marketing techniques.

To fund this new Bachelor Universitaire Technologique, the IUT does not rely on additional resources, as professional licenses will simply be replaced: โ€œThe resources that will be freed up will allow us to put the Bachelors in good conditionsโ€ explains Jean-Christophe Boisse via phone.
