A scene of horror unfolded on Friday evening in the Ariane district of Nice. A 38-year-old woman was severely burned by her husband and then chased by him with a knife.
On Friday evening, residents of the Ariane district witnessed a horrifying event: A woman emerged from her apartment building on Boulevard de l’Ariane, screaming, with her clothes on fire. Emergency responders arrived a few minutes later and found that the 38-year-old woman had burns covering nearly 30% of her body, knowing that a burn area of 10% can endanger a life. Her injuries are second-degree burns on her back. Due to the severity of her injuries, the resident of Ariane was airlifted by helicopter to Marseille to the major burn center. Upon arrival, she was placed in an induced coma, and her condition remains critical.
The main suspect in this horrific assault is the victim’s husband. The 33-year-old suspect initially attempted to flee before being apprehended later in the evening. He has been taken into custody and interrogated by the Nice departmental security police. The man, who was not known to police for domestic violence, denied dousing his wife with ethanol and setting her on fire. He claims he was not present at the time of the incident.
