As part of the event “Contemporary Art and the Côte d’Azur – A Territory for Experimentation, 1951-2011,” the Sintitulo gallery updates the original pictorial research of Sylvain Vigny.
The artist was born in Austria in 1903 to French parents who were language teachers.
On February 4, 1970, he passed away in Nice, where he had resided since 1940. While his works are featured in many private collections in France and abroad, his work is very rarely disseminated in public institutions and remains little known to the general public.
Four young artists from the region, Béatrice Bailet, Marion Charlet, Emeline Girault, and Justyna Ptak, present their interpretation of a canvas by Sylvain Vigny nicknamed La Joconde, an atypical and enigmatic portrait, unconventional and extravagant.
This research follows a first project that took place at the Sintitulo gallery in 2009 and reflects our experimental commitment.
