The Frontist members of the Regional Council are not giving up!
Strongly opposed to the security measures announced by Christian Estrosi during his tenure as president of the regional institution, which did not really deliver the expected results to the point that they were abandoned, they take great pleasure in denouncing their “failure” – according to them – and the cost!
Indeed, whether it’s 3.7 or 5.4 million euros at stake, one could have considered the implications before rather than backtracking afterward.
Because the bill remains, and it is hefty!
On April 20, we were pleased with the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur Region’s decision to abandon the so-called “security” gates at train stations, a scheme previously marketed by Christian Estrosi as the flagship of his transportation security policy. Let’s remember that, even during the campaign, we always denounced the device’s inefficiency and exorbitant cost.
A bit naively, perhaps, we initially took up the figures (already significant) communicated by the Region itself, namely a cost of 3.7 million euros for 13 months of experimentation…
Today, we can affirm that Estrosi’s gadget will have cost 5.4 million euros! That is 1.7 million more than what was announced by the Region when the device was abandoned. These figures are presented in the financial table of report no. 6 of the Transport Commission, submitted to the standing committee.
It should also be noted that, contrary to previous announcements, the mobile gates system will see its operation significantly reduced between May and September, decreasing from nine teams to… just one.
This amounts to a comprehensive rejection of these so-called “security” gates; it is unfortunate that this comes only after such financial waste when the inefficiency was apparent for so long.
