In 24 hours, the Nice administrative court had issued its response.
The initial phases of the work had begun on March 2, and the demolition will be able to continue. Indeed, 24 hours after the request to suspend the demolition permit of the Acropolis palace made by Thierry Venem, a municipal councilor from the “Retrouver Nice” group, the Nice administrative court rejected the request.
Although he requested the suspension as a local resident (Mr. Venem lives opposite the building), the Nice administrative court judged that this action was primarily political. Thierry Venem “did not have a valid interest to act against the demolition permit of the Acropolis,” noted the judge in summary proceedings.
The Sauvons Acropolis collective reacted with an open letter addressed to the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, in which they expressed their belief “that the demolition of this building is not inevitable and that it is possible to find solutions that respect environmental concerns without sacrificing an entire economic and cultural segment of downtown Nice.”
There is only until this Tuesday, March 7, to file a suspensive appeal against the demolition permit of the Acropolis Palace.
