Luminiscence returns to the Basilica of Notre-Dame in Nice with a second show combining scenography, video mapping, and heritage discovery. An immersive visual and sound experience for all audiences.
“Reviving the sense of wonder.” This is what Romain Sarfati, the co-founder of Luminiscence, wanted to emphasize, “in a world that moves very fast, to not be dominated by screens anymore, to gather around the real, what surrounds us, and rediscover beauty.”
True to the spirit of the first tour, Luminiscence The Celestial Odyssey, which represents “Chapter Two”, remains an ambitious project requiring around fifty professionals. Among them is Stéphane Landowski for the script, as well as architects for preserving the sites and the validation of different historians for the script.
The idea is simple: it aims to allow the spectator to reconnect with their intimate and personal sense of spirituality, in a secular spirit, gathering as many people as possible. The show also allows you to discover or rediscover our cultural heritage by immersing yourself in the Basilica of Notre-Dame in Nice in a unique atmosphere, somewhat mystical, almost solemn. Noteworthy is the incredible performance by the choir, with remarkable technicality and talent. It would be quite pleasant if the opera singers intervened more frequently during the 45 minutes of the show.
The artistic dimension is supported by a strong investment in technique, with “video mapping” being one of the most essential aspects of the show. It allows the discovery of details invisible to the naked eye of the cathedral’s internal architecture, which is the most interesting. But be careful, this is not the main focus: children will be amazed by the infinite shades of colors projected on the walls, strong symbols, and various spiritual motifs.
A Show for the Whole Family in a Place Steeped in History
The show is intended again primarily as an auditory and visual experience. The gamble is successful, but the spectator may feel slightly frustrated: personal introspection is unfortunately somewhat hindered by too much sensory stimulation, and it is a shame that the script is not more elaborate or detailed.
That said, in relation to the intention the creators wanted to convey, the goal is achieved: here is a show that seeks only to bring together and soothe in a turbulent and unstable world. The young ones (and the adults) will be impressed by the technical feats, and the show piques curiosity to make one’s own journey: it makes you want to learn more about the heritage of your city and to rediscover a way of being together.
A few weeks before Christmas, and during these cooling days, here is a show to see with the family, to warm hearts.
