Aggressive Begging: Initial Assessment of the Intervention

Latest News

In recent months, the City of Nice has been facing an increase in the number of people engaging in begging in public spaces: approximately 300 people out of the 1000 homeless individuals.

In response to this situation, Christian ESTROSI, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis, has taken various measures, including the drafting of a new ordinance against aggressive begging on April 2, and the creation of a Cross-disciplinary Begging Action Center, which brings together all competent services within a single unit.

Furthermore, several actions have been carried out in squats or along the banks of the Var.

Following these actions, a joint operation was conducted with the Municipal Police and the National Police against this aggressive begging.

Outcome of this operation:

– 8 people arrested (illegal possession of weapons, exploitation of begging by minors, irregular status on national territory).
– 4 people fined based on the municipal anti-begging ordinance issued on April 2, 2012.
– 2 individuals with young children reported to the General Council.
