David Lisnard, president of the CRT Côte d’Azur (and Mayor of Cannes), comments on this agreement: “After my repeated efforts with the Government, I am pleased that we have finally secured that Airbnb, the leading community platform for home accommodations, will automatically collect the tourist tax in Nice, Antibes, and Cannes, starting from August 1, 2016. This is a first step towards commercial fairness between Airbnb hosts and our hoteliers, who are subject to significant administrative and fiscal constraints.”
He adds: “I am not opposed to this model which complements the traditional offer and which we must consider, but it is important to fight against unfair competition and for commercial ethics.”
This first step does not fully address the issue of competition, and I again support the idea that a law should allow this sector to be regulated so that all innovative initiatives can develop alongside historical players who are recognized for their expertise, skill, but also as generators of sustainable jobs in the tourism sector.”
