From March 29, 2026, the airline EasyJet will launch a direct route between Nice and Newcastle. Three weekly flights will connect the two cities. This announcement is part of the British airlineโs strategy to expand its network from Nice airport.
Nice Cรดte dโAzur continues to attract new international routes. EasyJet, the leading operator of the platform in market share, will offer direct flights to Newcastle upon Tyne starting in spring 2026. Departures will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. This new route will bring the number of destinations served by the airline from Nice to 51.
The announcement comes as the airport sees a strong recovery. In 2024, it welcomed 14.8 million passengers, exceeding pre-crisis levels. The service offer has expanded to 122 destinations in 45 countries. Several airlines have strengthened their presence. Air Corsica has opened a year-round route to Florence. United Airlines now connects Nice to Washington. Air Canada has resumed its seasonal service to Montreal. Animawings offers flights to Bucharest. Chalair serves Brive-la-Gaillarde during the summer.
EasyJet is not lagging behind. The airline recently announced flights to Dรผsseldorf, Hurghada, Lamezia Terme, and Santorini. The route to Newcastle is added to this series of openings.
A new gateway to northeast England
Located in the northeast of the United Kingdom, Newcastle offers an alternative to major English metropolises. Once an industrial city, it has transformed. It boasts Victorian architecture, remarkable bridges, and an active cultural life. Visitors can explore Hadrian’s Wall, Durham Cathedral, or the banks of the River Tyne.
Reginald Otten, Deputy Managing Director of EasyJet for France, summarizes the company’s ambition: โThe opening of this new exclusive route to Newcastle illustrates our commitment, as the leading airline in Nice in market share, to meet the expectations of travelers from the Cรดte d’Azur, whether they wish to reunite with their loved ones or discover the riches of northeast England. EasyJet thus continues to strengthen its network to offer even more choice and flexibility from Nice.โ
Newcastle is also the county town of Tyne and Wear. The city offers a mix of historical heritage and urban dynamism. In summer, long days allow you to fully enjoy local activities. Nature enthusiasts can quickly reach the Northumberland region or the shores of Kielder Water.
The opening of this route is part of a broader operation by EasyJet. The airline will launch a base in Newcastle from March 2026. It will station three aircraft there and offer 11 summer destinations, including Nice. The flights will be operated with Airbus A319 or A320.
In 2024, EasyJet transported nearly 21 million passengers and stands as a central player in air transport in France. In Nice, it represented 4.6 million passengers in the same year.
This new link between Nice and Newcastle addresses several issues. It strengthens connectivity between European regions. It also allows for diversification of tourist offers for the inhabitants of both cities. Finally, it demonstrates a shared desire to adapt services to new traveler expectations.
