For nearly 15 years, the Department of Alpes-Maritimes has been involved in the Vendée Globe, the famous solo and non-assisted around the world sailing race. After a successful partnership with skipper Jean-Pierre Dick, it’s the Azurian sailor Alexia Barrier who will take up the torch and represent the Department at Les Sables d’Olonne in November 2020. Before starting the 2020 Vendée Globe, Alexia completed her first big solo transatlantic race on the 40th Route du Rhum and will set sail again in July for the “Valencia Globe Series” and then for the Transat Jacques Vabre at the end of 2019.
