In the round of 16 of the Clarins Trophy on the courts of Lagardère Paris Racing, Alizé Cornet triumphed over South Korean Su Jeong Jang (ranked 114th in the world – 28 years old).
Solid in all aspects of her game, Alizé Cornet left her opponent no chance. Yet, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion when you consider the South Korean’s performance over the past few months (23 wins to 3 losses since March). This did not intimidate the Nice native, despite a complicated first game. Alizé Cornet won six consecutive games to wrap up the first set (6-1).
Strong on her first serve, the player from the French Riviera dominated her opponent when rallies extended. The same happened in returns, where she capitalized on Jeong Jang’s weaknesses in service to take control of the game.
Final score (6-1/7-5) in 1 hour and 28 minutes of play.
In the next round, Cornet will face another young American player, as she did in her first round.
