Latest News

During the All Saints’ vacation, the municipality of Nice is carrying out a new series of works in its public schools. Waterproofing, painting, greening, or ventilation: 36 operations are scheduled in 35 establishments for a total budget of nearly 630,000 euros.

As during every school vacation, Nice city’s technical services take advantage of this pause to carry out work in school buildings. For this All Saints’ vacation, 35 public schools are undergoing new works. The total amount committed reaches 629,492 euros.

These interventions cover different areas: roof maintenance, interior fittings, equipment replacement, playground greening, and thermal comfort improvement. The municipality’s stated goal is to continue modernizing the school facilities while meeting the immediate needs of the establishments.

Four elementary schools are benefiting from waterproofing work: Digue des Franรงais 2, Jules Ferry, Saint-Pierre dโ€™Arรจne, and Saint-Sylvestre. These operations represent a total investment of 161,800 euros. They aim to prevent leaks and enhance the durability of the roofs.

Fourteen other projects involve interior renovations, refurbishments, or painting work. They affect several establishments: the elementary schools Chalet des Roses, Magnolias 2, Thรฉrรจse Romรฉo 2, Jules Ferry, and Nikaรฏa, as well as the primary schools Madeleine Supรฉrieure and Saint-Roman de Bellet. Additionally, the nursery schools Saint-Sylvestre, Simone Veil, Val dโ€™Ariane, Jules Ferry, and Rosa Bonheur, and the specialized school of Chรขteau are included. All together, this represents 215,000 euros of investment.

Only one operation involves the replacement of window frames: at the nursery school Les Mรปriers, for an amount of 80,000 euros. Two other establishments will see the installation of new canopies, at Aire Saint-Michel and Rosalinde Rancher, for a total cost of 122,000 euros.

In anticipation of periods of intense heat next summer, the installation of ceiling fans is continuing in several classrooms. Itโ€™s a makeshift cooling solution, but it nonetheless provides students with better working conditions than before. During this work period, eight schools are concerned: the nursery schools Acacias, Bischoffsheim, Chรขteau, and Fouont Cauda, as well as the elementary schools Acacias, Bischoffsheim, and Fouont Cauda 1 and 2. This project represents an expenditure of 57,156 euros.

Finally, the greening of school playgrounds continues, following the operations begun in the summer. Trees and shrubs will be planted in the playgrounds of the nursery schools Bellanda and Chalet des Roses, as well as the elementary schools Caucade, Chรขteau, and Saint-Barthรฉlรฉmy. The overall cost for these ecological developments amounts to 297,000 euros.

The school catering areas are not forgotten. Renovation and development works are being carried out in the cafeterias of the schools Auber (nursery and elementary) and Fabron, for an amount of 43,536 euros. Other occasional interventions complete the program: IT cabling, door replacements, installation of container enclosures, or sanitation repairs.

A continuation of the modernization strategy since 2024

These projects are part of an extensive program of maintenance and renovation of the school heritage launched in Nice. Since 2024, the municipality has made regular investments during each vacation period.

In 2024, more than 460 projects were conducted in Nice’s schools, for a total amount of 8.9 million euros. The municipal teams also carried out 8,300 routine maintenance operations. These interventions aimed to improve the safety, comfort, and quality of the infrastructures.

The work continued throughout the year. During the Christmas holidays, 18 new operations were launched, notably securing the schools Paule d’Essling and Jules Verne, replacing window frames at the Ventabrun school, and installing ceiling fans at the Saint-Roch school group. These initiatives represented an investment of 243,000 euros.

In the spring, more than 720,000 euros were invested in 50 projects across 41 establishments. The program focused on renovations, compliance updates, and developments related to thermal comfort or ecological transition.

Last summer, a budget of 3.6 million euros was allocated to the modernization of 69 public schools. Nearly 90 projects were then launched to improve the conditions for students and educational staff.

This step-by-step approach allows for regular interventions without disrupting the schools’ functioning. Each vacation period becomes an opportunity to improve an aspect of daily school life: comfort, safety, accessibility, or greening.

The municipality indicates that these operations will continue until the end of the year, before launching a new investment plan in 2025.
