The PCF of Alpes-Maritimes approaches the upcoming electoral deadlines with confidence and hope. The result of last March’s departmental elections shows an improvement compared to the municipal elections of 2014 and gives substance to the ambition of becoming the fourth pillar of the local political table.
So, if today we talk about tripartism, why not invite oneself to the table?
Yes, the scores from the polls do not yet justify this perspective, but the ambition is not waning.
Moreover, with a government policy slow to yield results, a socialist party in trouble and also internally dismayed between rebels and other specialists in jabbering, the greens and environmentalists always uncertain between “to be or not to be,” and a large portion of citizens abstaining from voting, why not imagine that the opposition to austerity and the capitalism oppressing the people will eventually pay off?
The scenario is appealing and gives hope for a possible recovery of votes from a left-wing electorate that might choose the “true” left (the left of the left), which strongly resembles a sort of political takeover bid on the PS!
The method?
Cรฉcile Dumas (departmental secretary) and Robert Injey (party leader in Nice) outline it:
“In this spirit and with the desire to contribute to the emergence of a true left-wing alternative in our Region, the Communist Party will meet all the left-wing forces. Our partners from the Left Front, of course, but also those who wish to be part of such a construction.
We will meet them by proposing to discuss a Left Charter for the PACA region. A charter that does not yield to liberal logics and austerity policies. A charter that aims to respond to the social, economic, environmental, and human needs of the population.”
The action?
“We will hold a regional conference on Tuesday, May 12, in Marseille to decide on our proposal axes for the PACA region and designate a Regional spokesperson. A second regional conference will be held in September to designate our candidates and our choices for gathering.”
In simpler terms, either the socialists accept a program strongly oriented to the left, or the Left Front (the Mรฉlenchonists will certainly not miss the call to battle!) will present its own list in the first round of the Regional elections, significantly weakening the candidacy of the socialist Christophe Castaner and thereby opening the door to a final duel between the strong right and the far right…
In Alpes-Maritimes, Robert Injey and Cรฉcile Dumas have been appointed as spokespersons for the communists.
