As part of its policy of integrating people with disabilities, the city of Nice is organizing five days of sports and recreational activities dedicated to people with disabilities, from Monday, June 1st to Friday, June 5th.
This festive and friendly event, sponsored this year by Fabien Barel (Mountain Bike Champion, 3-time World Champion and 6-time French Champion), allows people with mental, physical, or sensory disabilities to be valued through adapted sports practice and thus experience the same sensations as able-bodied participants.
Nearly 2,000 people are expected over the week, both children and adults with disabilities, from 57 specialized institutions or associations in the department.
This Monday, June 1st at 9:30 am, Jacques Dejeandile, Municipal Councilor delegated to event management, will give the starting signal of this event in the presence of Khaled Lakhal, the patron of the 2014 edition, winner of the 2013 Euro Pรฉtanque, world champion in 1997, and 4-time world vice-champion.
The activities are adapted according to disabilities and will allow each of the expected participants to discover different types of activities.
The proposed sports activities include pรฉtanque, blowgun, boccia, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming in an outdoor pool, climbing, tennis/wheelchair tennis, sea excursions, caving, a football tournament, team sports workshops, athletics (long jump, sprinting), mountain biking, tandem cycling, tricycling, and push-biking. This year, a new activity is offered: the Photo Rally (orienteering course).
