The senior member of the association “La Mouette, les pointus de Nice” set sail this Sunday. Moby-Dick sailed off Rauba-Capeรน before cruising along the Promenade des Anglais, accompanied by around thirty pointus.
This well-accompanied sailboat is the oldest and largest of the Latin sail pointus in the association. It is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Moreover, it represents the Niรงois flag at certain Mediterranean regattas. Moby-Dick returned safely to its home port under the sun at around 11 o’clock this morning.
Pointus are mainly a Provenรงal tradition and are particularly present in the Var and Alpes-Maritimes regions.
This type of vessel has navigated the Mediterranean since antiquity. It has been a crucial factor in the development of fishing and trade between the two shores of this enclosed sea.
