The SNJ-CGT files a complaint for infringement of press freedom and threats against journalists on assignment. In our April 24 edition, we had already published a statement from France 3 Côte d’Azur that recounted the incident.
“Two journalists from the channel were targeted by verbal assaults at the UMP office in Alpes-Maritimes by Eric Ciotti, deputy and president of the General Council, and Christian Estrosi, deputy-mayor of Nice. They accused the reporting team of ‘campaigning for the Socialist Party or even being a CGT stronghold,’ according to the SNJ-CGT.”
Today, a new development gives this episode a legal turn.
For the record, the two accused deputies, in turn, called on the CSA, claiming a violation of the duty of impartiality by the public broadcaster.
The SNJ-CGT of France 3 Côte d’Azur filed a complaint on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, with the Public Prosecutor of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Nice following the infringements of press freedom and the threats made on Sunday, April 22, 2012, by the Deputy-mayor of Nice and the Deputy and President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, against two journalists from the editorial team while they were covering the election night at the UMP Federation headquarters in Alpes-Maritimes.
The SNJ-CGT requests the Management of France Télévisions to file a complaint for “infringement of press freedom and threats against journalists in the exercise of their function.”
