Nine states are still awaiting results: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, as well as Maine, North Carolina, Georgia, Nebraska, Arizona, Nevada, and Alaska.

To win the election, one of the two candidates must secure 270 of the 538 electoral votes. Joe Biden is close to this number, allowing the Democratic candidate to hold onto hopes of victory, but his Republican opponent is close behind.

The focus is now on mail-in votes, which are much more numerous than in previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Counting these votes could take several days given the record participation of Americans.

The only certainty: the Democratic wave, hoped for by some in the Biden camp who dreamed of historic victories in North Carolina, Georgia, or even Texas, will not materialize.

In the absence of a breakthrough in the South, Joe Biden’s path to the White House now goes through the industrial north of the country. The declared objective is to reclaim three states barely won by Donald Trump in 2016: Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania.
