An accomplice of the attacker of the Promenade des Anglais attack arrested in the Naples region.

The officers of the Digos (judicial police) from the police stations of Naples and Caserta have captured the man who supplied a pistol and a Kalashnikov to Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, the Franco-Tunisian perpetrator of the Promenade des Anglais massacre during the national holiday on July 14, 2016.

The person was being pursued by an international warrant and was hiding in the small town of Sparanise. His name is Endri Elezi, 28 years old. Elezi was with a child, likely the son he had with his partner, and other compatriots of Albanian nationality.

The Italian police are maintaining strict confidentiality on the arrest while investigations continue to determine the network of supporters who protected the wanted man.

It is known that the Albanian had recently arrived in Caserta and had tried to blend into the large community of the country living in Sparanise; however, his presence in the area had been noticed by the Digos investigators of the Questura (police headquarters) of Caserta, who constantly scrutinize all “sensitive points.”

Elezi did not attend mosques or other places of worship.

When the officers were certain that he could be the subject wanted by the French authorities for the Nice attack, the blitz and arrest were triggered.
