The holidays have evidently brought vigor to the Riviera communists, made robust by the prospect of a substantial social confrontation this autumn and an electoral one next spring.
“We want to be useful to the population,” says Cécile Dumas, the departmental secretary, in a determined tone, with Jacques Victor, general councilor, at her side. This will be the guiding thread of the electoral campaign.
To continue: “Moreover, no one will dictate the behavior communists should adopt,” and here one hesitates to know if she meant to address Mélénchon’s Left Front running mates or the socialist “enemy” brothers.
In short, this back-to-school conference did not change the “granite” position of the local communists one iota: condemnation of the UMP and FN (the latter united in certain so-called “civic” lists where activists from both parties will be found), distancing from the socialists “who are no longer even social-democrats but at most social-liberals and even then…” according to Jacques Victor.
The position for the 2014 municipal elections? Left Front lists with the Left Party and associative and union movements in the first round, and then we’ll see based on the results (And why couldn’t we be ahead of the PS? – affirms Cécile Dumas with a smile), all while assuring a “republican” behavior when the time comes.
With nearly 80 elected representatives in the department, this gathering aims to increase them and, in three medium-sized towns (Breil, Sospel, La Trinité), to prevail.
In any case, the communist leaders (Robert Injey in Nice?) will be designated before the end of October to be able to negotiate with the other partners of the coalition for final choices before getting ready for battle.
“We want to unite where Mr. Estrosi wants to divide with his anti-social policy that is bent to the interests of either large commercial groups or real estate developers,” continues the communist secretary.
In the meantime, two initiatives will be occasions to listen to people.
