The paradox is indeed present: while the COP21 conference was celebrating the centrality of ecology in the global political agenda, French ecologists suffered a crushing defeat at the polls during the regional elections.
In fact, the diversity of alliances formed by ecologists reflects their difficulty in expressing a viewpoint that is uniquely their own in economic matters.
They still too often feel the need to position themselves on the axis of the far left, anti-capitalist spectrum. One would likely expect political ecology to position itself in a different dimension.
It should emphasize the necessity of fighting against all inequalities, as the essential ecological transition can only be accepted if it is accompanied by greater justice.
Moreover, if we add the aggressiveness and narcissism of their leaders, we clearly see that the wide gap between proclaimed principles and actual behaviors is the main cause of their failure.
If they do not learn the necessary lessons, the disappointment could be even greater: dulling reason inevitably leads to its downfall…
