The President of the Republic received on Monday, September 20th the representatives of the Harkis who were alongside France during the Algerian War. Emmanuel Macron formally presented his apologies to nearly 300 association representatives at the Élysée Palace.

Jeanne Etthari, President of the association MUDRA (Memory Unity Dignity of the Repatriated from Algeria), was at the Élysée: “It is a historic pardon that we have been waiting for almost 60 years. Mr. Macron said to Algeria, ‘not an apology nor repentance for Algeria, but yes, pardon for the Harkis.’”

Since Tuesday, September 21st, an exhibition entitled *“Journeys of the Harkis and Their Families”* is on display at the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen (CUM).

It traces the entire history of this community through 15 panels, all provided by the national office for former combatants.

In collaboration with the city of Nice, Jeanne Etthari conceived this exhibition. She had been working on it for months without knowing that Emmanuel Macron would speak before the inauguration. She wished to involve the educational world by bringing students from Sasserno High School in Nice and students from the history faculty.
