To mark its twentieth anniversary and start a new decade, the Museum of Asian Arts in Nice presents Esprit d’Harmonie, an exhibition dedicated to contemporary creation and literati tradition in China and Japan.
This event is the result of fruitful partnerships established with the National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet and the National School of Art in Limoges, and the support of two collectors: Yang Ermin for ink stones and Jean-Claude Febb for literati rocks.
A true spirit inhabits this exhibition, that of Harmony. It is expressed in a quest for forms and materials, reinventing the millennia-old practices of calligraphy and porcelain.
Line and volume confront each other here to give full meaning to a paradoxical gesture, both ancient and new, practiced by masters and emerging artists.
From China to Japan, passing through France, the exhibition offers its visitors a journey into this universe where ink strokes and clay lines intersect, in a mineral setting so dear to the literati.
