The Pitchounettes are back for the new season, and this time their ambitions are higher. After successfully maintaining their place last season, they are now aiming to secure a qualifying spot for the playoffs this season.
After a hard-fought effort to maintain their position, it was essential to add some spice to this new season. Raising the bar a bit higher ensures that the sporting challenge will elevate the players just like last season. To achieve this, the club has equipped itself accordingly. Jeff Depresle, the technical and sports director and head of the rugby school, joins the staff alongside Lydie (forwards) and Loly (backs) to bring his expertise and a fresh perspective.
The Return of the Veterans
While there is a new coach, the integration of new players might pose a significant challenge. “We are more used to starting in mid-October; this time, at the level of automatic connections, we haven’t been able to work as much as we would have liked,” explains Loly. Despite having a young squad, the return of veteran players will help them not start the season too understaffed in key positions. Three veterans, including Florence Beauchamp, are returning after a break. Loly is counting on them to bring balance to the team. “We will gradually structure this young team, and the veterans will help provide stability behind them.”
Facing Nancy Without Certainties
Recalling that the backs had unlocked the situation last year against Nancy, with the absence of two wingers, and a changed backbone (departures of the prop, the number 8, and the fullback), it’s hard to be confident about facing the Nancy team. “They’re from Lorraine; they don’t come to play around. I don’t know if they had many departures, but I hope they are at the same level of preparation as we are.” While dedication and presence have been constants in practice, one thing is missing: time. Time for Sophie Mallau to regain control of the team’s position as a number 10, for example.
“The goal is to gradually integrate the new players. And for that, nothing beats games,” Loly explains. And if possible, a bittersweet victory that brings the group together, followed by a thrilling third half at the club’s clubhouse, just like last year against the same Lorraine team!
