A young man aged 16 or 17 and heavily armed was arrested this Thursday after opening fire within the premises of Alexis-de-Tocqueville High School in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes).
Named Killian, the suspect was enrolled in the first year of literature at the school and was unknown to the police services.
Eight people were injured in the shooting. Among the injured, three were transferred to the hospital. They were slightly injured by pellets. The other five sustained minor injuries due to the crowd’s movement.
Among the injured was the principal, who tried to intervene to calm the student. The suspect allegedly opened fire on the principal twice using a pellet gun.
The possibility of a terrorist attack was immediately ruled out by investigators.
Initial information seems to indicate that this is the senseless act of a young man fascinated by violence and firearms.
The father of the alleged shooter is a city councilor; elected in 2014 with the National Front label before joining the team of Mayor Jรฉrรดme Viaud (LR).
