This Paralympic sport of sound ball is starting to develop in France, and ANICES wishes to embrace this discipline for both young people and adults.
Explanationsโฆ
Goalball is a Paralympic sport played in teams.
Just like in Torball, two teams of three players face each other on the field, all wearing opaque masks over their eyes.
The ball used is sound-based, with the only difference being that in Goalball it weighs 1.25 kg compared to 500 grams in Torball.
During the match, the two teams send the ball back and forth trying to score a goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the two 12-minute halves wins the game.
Goalball and Torball are quite different sports, yet they are complementary.
Goalball particularly focuses on improving one’s shooting strength as well as necessary movement on the field during matches.
Torball, on the other hand, works on speed, shooting fluidity, technique, and discretion.
One particular quality, however, brings these two team sports together: communication. A team that does not communicate is a team that leaves gaps and gives an advantage to its opponent.
