The Animal Collective of 06 – a member of the September 21st Collective against hunting and trapping – and the Green Association are organizing a demonstration this Sunday starting at 3 pm to “put an end to these lethal and cruel pastimes that deprive our department, our region, our mountains, of much of their biodiversity richness while placing non-hunting citizens in permanent insecurity during their walks.”
According to this animal collective, “simple solutions can be implemented to coexist intelligently with the wildlife of our country, which endures the constraints of the continuous development of human activities. These solutions can allow us to put an end to this pastime from another era, respecting life so that every citizen can enjoy nature, have the joy of encountering living animals, and observe them without fear of being shot at!”
This is a true indictment released on the eve of the official opening of the hunting season in the Alpes-Maritimes, scheduled for tomorrow, September 11th.
Every year, 30 million animals are killed by practitioners of this pastime! French hunters kill 25 million birds annually (according to ONCFS figures), which represents a quarter of the European hunting tally!
The protesters also list numerous grievances against hunters.
We are in the classic scenario of opposition with no possibility of compromise: a deadly practice for some, a species regulation for others.
Without going into detail, hunters represent 1.5% of the French population but, like all organized groups, carry electoral and economic weight. Their practice is old and rooted in culture and customs.
Times change, but habits do not.
