The International Campaigns collective is organizing a new public awareness and pressure campaign targeting the authorities, in partnership with the Collectif Animalier du 06, against animal experimentation and for animal rights, in the particular context of the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) โStop Vivisection.โ
The Nice event is scheduled for this Saturday at Place Massรฉna at 2 PM.
130 immobile and silent volunteers will send a strong message to denounce the archaic and cruel nature of animal experimentation and its dangers for human health, while also highlighting the availability of modern and effective non-animal research and testing methods.
Sporting the colors of the 28 EU member states, the protesters will show their support for โStop Vivisection,โ on the eve of the public hearing at the European Parliament of scientists and organizers of the ECI (date not yet set).
A double counter will provide public information, hosted by:
the Collectif Animalier du 06, established in 2010, which aims to gather people to think and act in defense of the animal cause in all its forms.
International Campaigns, a French collective founded in 2003 that advocates for the fundamental rights of animals, particularly against animal experimentation.
The documentation from the scientific committee Antidote Europe will also be available.
A European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) is a recent mechanism allowing EU citizens to request an amendment to existing European regulations on a specific issue.
In the case of the ECI โStop Vivisection,โ the request was made to the European Commission โto repeal Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes and to propose instead a new directive aiming to end animal experimentation and make the use of data relevant to the human species mandatory for biomedical and toxicological research.โ
In less than a year, the timeframe allocated by the Commission, over 1,300,000 signatures were collected. At the beginning of 2014, the relevant national authorities certified more than 1 million signatures, thereby enabling the continuation of the institutional process.
On the occasion of the European elections, 50 European deputies have already declared their support for the ECI โStop Vivisection.โ
