On Thursday, July 4, 2013, at 6 PM at Villa Masséna, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, will award the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Nice to Anita Garibaldi. This distinction was announced in 2011 by the Deputy Mayor during the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Italian unity.
Anita Garibaldi, the great-granddaughter of Giuseppe Garibaldi, presides over the “Garibaldi” foundation, which brings together Garibaldi enthusiasts from around the world. The foundation’s mission is to promote the memory of the hero of the Two Worlds as well as the values championed by the great man: justice, equality, human rights defense, democracy, and more.
As a member of the Italian League for Human Rights, she founded the movement “A Thousand Women for Italy,” with the aim of restoring women’s full participation in the Italian political life. Her movement also aims to introduce new fundamental rights into the Italian Constitution, such as environmental protection.
