Given the turn this real problem is taking, which is turning into a political controversy, one can only hope that โNotre-Dameโ intercedes to quickly bring reason to everyone!
Because, as expected, the reactions of the opposition did not delay, with strong criticism of this new choice for the neighborhood adjacent to the main artery of the city center.
The municipal elections seem to be in full swing in the capital of the Cรดte dโAzur…
Reaction from Patrick Allemand, municipal and metropolitan councilor, president of the Change of Era group, to the municipal ‘anti-gathering’ order in the Notre-Dame district:
โCertainly, the Mayor of Nice knows only one way to solve a problem he faces: the order of prohibitionโ
The situation in the Notre-Dame district had become unacceptable, and I challenged him on this subject. It has nothing to do with the alleged laxity of Madame Taubira.
It is Mr. Estrosi himself who, by deciding to close the CAARUD (Reception and Support Center for the Reduction of Drug Use Risks) on Offenbach Street, provoked it.
I recently wrote to him to ask him to reopen a CAARUD in the city center, where the need exists, and not in Pasteur, where he wanted to transfer it.
Instead of acknowledging his mistake, he responds with a new prohibition order, the anti-regrouping order.
Given the profile of the targeted population, this order is doomed to failure and risks being ineffective or having only one consequence: moving the problem to a neighboring district that will thank Mr. Estrosi for his brilliant initiative of the day.โ
Reaction from Robert Injey (municipal councilor of the PC)
Christian Estrosi has just issued an anti-regrouping order in two districts around the train station. To justify this order, he uses the pretext of poor security figures.
Christian Estrosi just had a revelation!!! Surveillance cameras are not โtheโ solution to security problems. After cutting 10,000 police and gendarme positions, the UMP wakes up. It is true that in the meantime, Sarkozy was defeated.
The peace of citizens deserves more than highly-publicized, sporadic police raids. We need community policing that is ongoing throughout the territory.
Christian Estrosiโs order highlights another problem that the Mayor of Nice carefully avoids naming precisely. Everyone might be surprised by the prohibition hours of gatherings, particularly from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. What do these gathering hours correspond to?… Donโt they correspond to the hours when employers โshopโ for the dayโs job sites?
The issue today that Christian Estrosi avoids naming, isnโt it the problem of undeclared work on which a part of the local business relies?
Obviously, it would be useful if the labor inspection could carry out the necessary checks. But since the UMP made dismantling the labor code and the services ensuring its compliance a priority, there are few left to fight against the development of illegal work. Without addressing this problem, prohibiting gatherings around the train station will only move the problem a few streets further.
Security, labor inspection… we could add school, healthcare, and many others, what we need today are public services that can fulfill their missions. The numerous orders from C. Estrosi will not be able to meet this requirement.
