Last night at the Port Theatre in Nice, the association Anticor (fighting against corruption and for transparency in politics) organized a screening and debate on the theme of corruption. It was attended by Séverine Tessier, spokesperson for Anticor, and Jean-Christophe Picard (head of Anticor 06) who appears in the broadcast shown.
The evening began with the screening of the report “Corruption: The Ever-Present Temptation.” broadcast on the TV program Complément d’Enquête on France 2 in November 2012. This was followed by a debate where each member of Anticor present in the theatre shared their experiences in facing corruption. Fake invoices, suspicious documents, these citizens are ready to do anything to bring to light the wrongdoings of their superiors at the cost of their personal lives. It is not uncommon that when a citizen uncovers something suspicious, involving a significant sum of money, attempts are made to silence them through threats (anonymous phone calls, a note left on a car windshield …)
This meeting also served to learn more about the association and its upcoming projects. For example, the creation of a system to effectively protect whistleblowers. Fear is one of the weapons of the corrupt, who do not hesitate to use it.
Anticor faces ongoing challenges when it comes to exposing the truth. It involves gathering evidence (invoices, public documents …), approaching authorities, who may turn a deaf ear, and building a solid case without leaving any exploitable flaws for the accused.
But Anticor is also a network that grows day by day, with increasing media exposure and recognition. An organization fueled by honest citizens who believe that truth and laws should be upheld regardless of a person’s status.
Incorruptibles, so to speak.
