As reported by Mediapart yesterday, Jean-Noรซl Falcou, a member of the ANTICOR association (which fights against corruption and for transparency in politics), filed a complaint on Monday, January 21, 2013, against Christian Estrosi for embezzlement of public funds.
The anti-corruption activist from the Riviera accuses the deputy of the 5th constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes of having used his parliamentary role to benefit the Friends of Nicolas Sarkozy Association with a massive dispatch of promotional and subscription appeal bulletins for this association, at the expense of the National Assembly, thus the taxpayer, for an estimated amount of over โฌ30,000 (see attached complaint).
It is explained: โThe massive dispatch, contrary to the rules of the National Assembly, of a promotional bulletin of an association (of which the deputy is the general secretary!) is unrelated to the interests of the French citizens and taxpayers: we therefore assert the embezzlement of public funds to the Prosecutor of Nice.
This civic action aims to remind those who violate it of the Law: an elected official of the Republic cannot use taxpayers’ money for private purposes.
If the National Assembly does not fully play its monitoring role, it is up to the citizens and associations to ensure that there are no abuses.
Pending the opening of a preliminary investigation, we await reimbursement to the National Assembly for the unduly incurred expenses.โ
