The Nice public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation involving Eric Ciotti, a deputy and President of Les Rรฉpublicains 06. The elected official, a former president of the Departmental Council, is still a councilor but most notably the financial manager as he chairs the finance commission.
The issue, if there is one, stems from his use of resources (service car, staff) that may not comply with administrative regulations. This use of CD06’s human and material resources could constitute misappropriation of public funds.
Will it simply be a passing issue or a classic banana peel that causes someone to slip? At this stage, there is no evidence to corroborate the information that circulated in the afternoon.
Originally, the association Anticor06* filed a report with the Nice prosecutor on September 12, 2019. “The Nice public prosecutor’s office deemed the elements sufficient to open an investigation,” according to Anticor06.
According to Anticor, these actions “could constitute misappropriation of public funds, as described by Article 432-15 of the Penal Code, which states that ‘The act by a person holding public authority or tasked with a public service mission, a public accountant, a public depositary or one of their subordinates, to destroy, misappropriate, or embezzle an act or document, or public or private funds, or equivalents, document, or title in their place, or any other object given to them due to their position or mission, is punishable by ten years of imprisonment and a fine of โฌ1,000,000, which can be doubled depending on the profits gained from the offense.’”
Eric Ciotti wants to remain “calm.” “I welcome this procedure with the utmost serenity,” he responded to inquiries.
