After a noticeable absence last year, the Nice Aquathlon returned this Sunday. The program included four races alternating between swimming and running, open to amateurs of all ages.
A turquoise water at 21°C awaited the competitors of this 12th Nice Aquathlon. This event, organized in memory of Jean-Jacques Merigeau, former president of the Nice Triathlon Club and founder of the event, drew large crowds. No less than 226 competitors gathered, ranging in age from five to forty-five and older. The youngest participants kicked off the event at 9 a.m. Brimming with excitement, the children enjoyed themselves immensely, supervised by a team of volunteers passionate about triathlon. Upon arrival, Nael, who finished first in his category, told the announcer that he “prefers biking to running or swimming,” showcasing the educational aspect of the race.

The events followed one another, and the crowd gathered along the barriers to cheer on the juniors/veterans. Under a scorching sun, the amateur participants were happy to finish, smiling, hand in hand. Among them, Sylvie Charlet accompanied by Ludo, was the first para-athlete to participate in the race. A success that should encourage the organizers to repeat the experience.

Then came the time for the trophy ceremony with José Cobos, former central defender of OGC Nice and deputy delegate for sporting events in the city. All the participants gathered at the foot of the podium to review their exploits with family or friends, with a single idea in mind, to return next year.
