It is known that Nice’s swimmers were among the most successful athletes at the London 2012 Olympics. Medalists and future prospects have now set their sights on Rio 2016 and, in the meantime, on intermediate international competitions such as this year’s World Championships in Barcelona.
Speaking of international level, it also requires quality sporting facilities. And with its reigning champions and those aspiring to follow in their footsteps, the ONN, the leading French swimming club, has long dreamed of an aquatic stadium worthy of the name.
This will soon become a reality: this Friday, April 26, the first stone of the aquatic center will be laid, located to the north of the Charles Ehrmann Sports Park at 72-76 bd Jean Luciano (in the heart of the future Eco-Valley).
On this 13,300 m² site, a true complex will be built in two phases: An outdoor 50m x 25m pool (phase 1) and then an indoor 50m x 25m pool, with fixed seating for 1,000, a leisure area, a fitness space, and a weight room intended for all sports clubs.
The aquatic center will eventually integrate into the future city of sports, which will notably include the future training center for OGC Nice.
The first phase of work* includes the construction of a training pool for high-level swimmers. This pool is expected to be delivered in September 2013°.
