The Azur Brain Week “Brain: Sports, Pleasure, and Addictions” takes place from March 10 to 16, 2014. This European event involves more than 30 cities in France and is organized here by CNRS and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.


cerveau.jpg This week of “scientific outreach” is here to discover and understand our brain, share advancements in regional research and the latest developments, and the professions surrounding our brain will also be highlighted.

During these 7 days, research advancements will be presented under the scientific responsibility of Dr. Carole Rovรจre, an Inserm researcher, and Professor Jacques Nรถel, a teaching researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology, along with numerous researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, and students.

Scientific workshops, conferences, exhibitions, science cafรฉs, and science cinemas will take place in Nice but also in other cities within the department and the region. Numerous educational interventions will occur in middle and high schools in partnership, particularly with the “ropes of success” program.

Yesterday, the inaugural conference “Are Champions Programmed to Win?” took place at the Mediterranean University Center, led by Hubert Ripoll, a neuropsychologist at Aix-Marseille University. During this conference, he relied on numerous interviews he had with athletes and sports coaches to write his books, to explain the functioning of the athlete’s brain and its capacity for adaptation.

Following this conference, a discussion with high-level athletes present for the occasion took place, where they answered questions from the audience, sharing their experiences and high-level experience.

Among the athletes present, we noted the presence of Alain Bernard, swimming champion and Olympic medalist, Nodjialem Myaro, world champion, former captain of the Nice team, president of the women’s handball league, Laura Pomportes, vice-champion of Europe in club squash, Victoria Ravva, volleyball champion at RC Cannes, and Frank May, former boxing champion and his daughter Adeline, World and European under-18 champion in boxing.
