This exhibition presents a series of images to the public (photographs, texts, film) showcasing the rich natural landscape of the “Alps of the Mediterranean,” highlighting their unique geological features. This cross-border union of protected mountainous, coastal, and marine areas would contribute to the international recognition of this exceptional territory.
From the southernmost glacier in the Alps, towering around 3,200 meters, to the deepest marine abysses plunging over 2,500 meters deep, the Alps of the Mediterranean represent the most exemplary site of the rift of a mountain range still under construction by the opening of a subsequent ocean.
This exhibition aims to convey the exceptional character and strength of this territory, which is ours, but also, and above all, its universal significance that transcends our borders to offer geologists worldwide and all newcomers a fundamental understanding of the Earth’s history and geodynamic functioning.
