For the 4th consecutive year, the NICE JAZZ ORCHESTRA takes over the Théâtre Francis Gag in old Nice, creating a winter rendezvous for all music lovers and jazz enthusiasts in particular.

Once again, the NJO will transform the Théâtre Francis Gag into a laboratory for musical exploration and creation. After dedicating its 2012 edition to the blues and trumpet, Pierre Bertrand, Christian Pachiaudi, and Alain Asplanato have chosen to explore the world of soul and funky jazz in 2013, highlighting energetic grooves and explosive brass sections.

Program:

*Friday, March 22nd, 8:30 PM: NJO septet “Hard bop and funky jazz”*

The NJO will revive the music of the “Blue Note” era with compositions by Horace Silver and others he inspired.

An American composer and musician, he is one of the major figures of the hard bop and soul jazz movement. His percussive playing and swing sense have led many to regard him as one of the founders of funky jazz.

The septet will be directed by Pierre BERTRAND, saxophone, with:
– Tony RUSSO, trumpet,
– Fred LUSIGNANT, trombone,
– Christian BONICHI, saxophone,
– Fred D’OELNITZ, piano,
