In the context of the 13th Operetta Festival of the City this Friday at 8 PM and Sunday, September 14 at 3 PM, the Nice Opera House is hosting the 13th Operetta Festival of the City with two exceptional performances of The Merry Widow.

This operetta in 3 acts, composed with a libretto by Victor Lรฉon and Lรฉo Stein, The Merry Widow is a lively, festive, humorous, and measured show for all audiences.

Itโ€™s the story of Popoff, the ambassador of Warsaw who is hosting a ball in honor of his prince. The Parisian guests mingle with a crowd of diplomats. Everyone is awaiting the arrival of Missia, the widow of banker Palmieri, whose fortune is essential for the countryโ€™s wellbeing. Count Danilo must win the widowโ€™s heart, who must not marry a Parisian…

Within two years from its creation in 1905, The Merry Widow achieved immediate success and was performed in about thirty countries, totaling over one hundred eighty thousand performances. Unfortunately, World War I put the work on hold, only to reappear in 1925.

With the participation of: The Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice under the direction of Philippe AUGUIN, the Choirs of the Nice Opera under the direction of Giulio MAGNANINI, the ballet Contre-Ut with six male and six female dancers.

Directed and choreographed by Serge MANGUETTE. Conception, co-production, and artistic direction by Melcha CODER.

The show lasts approximately 3 hours.
