Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 5:00 PM, at Les Abattoirs – Chantier Sang Neuf
The event “Water in all its forms” is made possible thanks to the support of Les Abattoirs – Chantier Sang Neuf and the City of Nice.
La Compagnie Humaine and its choreographer Eric Oberdorff have emerged from two intensive residency periods for the creation project “Leviathan.”
This choreographic piece focuses on the theme of water scarcity, featuring six characters in a state of emergency, against the backdrop of the Kyoto Protocol and Melville’s “Moby Dick.”
The artists aim to present a progress report on their work, in a walk-through format, confronting both the audience’s gaze and the architectural peculiarity of these former slaughterhouses.
Eric Oberdorff wanted this rehearsal/performance to facilitate an exchange between the public and specialists on water issues.
A conference on “Resource Issues” will be conducted by a representative from the INSPIRE Institute, followed by a roundtable discussion on the challenges of “water, where we stand with the resource, and how to evolve individual and collective perceptions.”
Why Les Abattoirs – Chantier Sang Neuf
The choreographic piece “Leviathan” is designed to be performed in theaters.
However, its choreographer also wishes for it to find its place in more unconventional venues.
Due to their history and architectural configuration, Les Abattoirs – Chantier Sang Neuf provide the opportunity to test this idea.
The venue also allows for a rare proximity between the artists and the audience.
Provisional Program
A choreographic performance will open the event, followed by a conference by Léon Christophe Etilé, who on behalf of the INSPIRE Institute will deliver a state of play on the water issue at the beginning of the 21st century.
A multi-party roundtable (cultural operators, community, citizens, businesses) will allow different perspectives to be shared and, above all, explore the representations that civil society may have on this topic (notably the scarcity of the resource).
The discussions will be facilitated by Terra 21, a partner of this event.
