At the Theatre of Photography and Image: The cycle of Nice’s history continues…

Latest News

As with most coastal cities of the Mediterranean, Nice has benefited since antiquity from the numerous exchanges of maritime trade. The sea was both a blessing and a danger; pirates and enemies often arrived from the open sea. Especially since Nice and Villefranche were, for five centuries, the only maritime outlets of the State of Savoy.

This rich and centuries-old history: Secrets of shipwrecks, splendors of the Order of Malta, port destinies, echoes of trades, striking images of the sea, its men and its ships: all these contributions help us to better know and appreciate this fundamental heritage in the identity of Nice.

This Saturday, April 6 at 3 PM, it will be Jean-Baptiste Pisano’s turn, the head of the University Diploma in Art History and Archaeology, University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, to continue this illustration with a conference titled “…along the clear gulfs” (maritime representations from L’Estaque to Bordighera).
