On the occasion of the Centenary of the First World War, the International Conference “Russia in the First World War: An Analysis through the Lens of Written Documents and Works of Art” is organized by the Center for Modern and Contemporary Mediterranean Studies at the University of Nice Sophia (UNS) and will be held at the Château de Valrose.

For two days, scholars, researchers, and experts from France and Russia will debate two themes: Russia in the First World War – archival documents, letters, press articles, memoirs (Wednesday, 12), and The Reflection of the First World War in Various Artistic Forms: Literature, Painting, Sculpture, Cinema (Thursday, 13).

The proceedings will be introduced by Jean-Paul PELLEGRINETTI, Professor of Contemporary History, Director of the Center for Modern and Contemporary Mediterranean Studies (CMMC), University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, Member of the International Research and Debate Collective on the War of 1914-1918 (CRID) who will speak on “Is the First World War the Matrix of the 20th Century?”

A third day will take place on November 14 at the Faculty of Law on the theme: The First World War on the Internet and through 2 Russian films (film club), “The Path of Torment,” Part 1 “The Sisters,” Grigori Roshal, screenplay by Boris Chirskov, music by Dmitri Kabalevski, Mosfilm 1957, 98 minutes. and “Dead for France,” Sergey Zaytsev, 2003, 57 minutes.
