– “LET’S DREAM”, a Boulevard comedy by Sacha GUITRY
Summary: The husband is a good man, not very intelligent, well-off, and a bon vivant. His wife: a young, pretty, and distinguished woman. He pretends to have an urgent meeting. She lets him leave, far from being fooled. The host, who has heard everything, is young, charming, and cheerful. He declares his love for her, which she admits to sharing.
They arrange to meet that evening. He waits for her anxiously. Unable to hold himself, he calls her and speaks all the crazy words that come to mind. And while he speaks, speaks, speaks, she arrives and falls into his arms.
The next morning, there’s a drama—they didn’t wake up! She’s panicking, he’s joking. Another drama, the husband arrives! Feeling sorry for himself, he made such a “scene” that he didn’t go home, “What will my poor wife think?” She listens, beside them, in her lover’s robe, who will find a way to keep the husband away for two more days…
-The text is excellent, it’s Guitry’s comedy, it’s fast-paced, funny, not too long (1h30), the small adaptations made pleasantly smooth out the outdated aspects of the situations and the style. This play charms us in our time, with a grace, jubilant lightness, and limitless humor.
