At Tire-Livres: The right book for the right age

Latest News

The eleventh edition of A Tire-Livres was launched this Wednesday, January 28, at the Terra Amata Nursery. It features a selection of books for the very young, themed around the pleasures of food. This presentation took place in the presence of Franรงoise Monier, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of family affairs, Jean-Luc Gag, Municipal Councilor of Nice and Delegate for literature and the fight against illiteracy, and Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy for education.

Which book should you choose for your little one? This is a recurring question that parents ask themselves. To address this, A Tire-Livres offers a selection of the best childrenโ€™s books for ages 6 to 36 months. These books are chosen by professionals from the Libraries Directorate in collaboration with the Family Directorate of the city of Nice. The featured author and illustrator of this selection is Hervรฉ Tullet.

On this occasion, the theme of the pleasures of food was highlighted. The school catering service decided to prepare a delicious snack for the children of the Terra Amata nursery. Four renowned pastry chefs from the region made waffles and cotton candy accompanied by peach smoothies. Chefs Jean-Michel Llorca, Serge Serain, Franรงois Ducroux, and Jean-Claude Cannestier were present for the children.

โ€œA Tire-livres results from a partnership between the libraries and nurseries of the city of Nice. We work to try to instill a love of reading in children. This work starts very early. We choose a theme, an author, and select the right book for the age group. Itโ€™s important because if the book is too difficult, the child will not be drawn to it and will not engage with it. An unsuitable medium leads to abandonment,” explains Franรงoise Monier.

According to Franรงoise Monier, “this approach is important. Putting words to things dispels violence. It is necessary to be comfortable with words, with language, to make room for dialogue rather than violence.”

“Through this approach, it is about guiding parents so they can inspire a desire to read in children, using suitable colors and formats. When a childโ€™s senses and curiosity are stimulated, it means success,โ€ adds Jean-Luc Gag.

From January 22 to February 25, A Tire-Livres will offer free activities, open to everyone in the libraries of Nice. They will allow parents to share initiation moments with their children. The program includes reading, small shows, workshops, games, and delicious snacks around books, animating libraries and the Mediabus. Find the complete program at www.bmvr.nice.fr
